Responsibilities


The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span.

The RN is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care. The RN provides clinical leadership, particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. The RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidence-based nursing practice. The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes.

The RN supports the development of students and colleagues by acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship. The RN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit, coordination of patient care and staffing.

The RN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the Nova Scotia College of Nursing Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of Nova Scotia Health Authority. The RN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.




Qualifications



Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible for registration in the province of Nova Scotia
Completion of an approved Critical Care Course/Critical Care Certificate/CCNP
Medical Surgical experience and previous Intensive Care experience required
Three to five years of nursing experience
BLS (HCP) certification
Current advance cardiac life support certification
Liver transplant experience an asset
Cardiac monitor interpretation and assessment
Strong communication, interpersonal and assessment skills coupled with sharp problem solving and decision-making skills
Willing to carry an arrest pager
Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work


Long assignment, full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
Beginning as soon as possible, with an expected end date of September 5, 2021
Dates are approximate and are subject to change 




Salary Information


$35.0366 - $41.4138 hourly
($42.8633 hourly with 25 years of RN experience)
